I’m sure you heard about this.
It’s all over the news, Facebook and Twitter.
Apparently, President Trump made some startling remarks.
During a recent immigration meeting, Trump allegedly said, “Why are we having all these people from shithole countries come here?”
At the time, the president and lawmakers were discussing protecting immigrants from certain countries as part of a proposed immigration deal.
Evidently, some of these countries aren’t on Trump’s vacation bucket list.
Now, before you get your panties in a bunch, I’m not here to talk politics.
Save your love or hate comments for another time.
Instead, consider this.
Trump’s comment behind closed doors, with no record, has been in the news cycle for days.
As per usual, he’s stirred up a bunch of people.
And, what comes next?
Arguments between the talking heads on cable news, plenty of coffee talk, huddles around the water cooler and social media posts, of course.
What’s my point?
Well, chances are your customers are talking about it. Or, at least have heard about the news.
Which makes this a conversation already going on in their minds.
And, when you can enter this conversation, you are ushered in. Given permission. Accepted.
Your chances of making the sale skyrocket.
Let’s take a look at how you can use the news in your marketing.
A Florida restaurant threw this event together…
$H!THOLE – Celebrating food & culture from shithole countries.
Results –> 97 people going, 1.2K people interested and 240 shares.
Not too shabby for a Facebook event that only looked hours old.
Of course, if you are going to use news like this…you better be clear on a couple things. Who do you want to attract? Who you want to repel? Basically, who is your *ideal* customer?
They don’t call it polarizing for nothing.
Whether you like Trump or not, you can agree he is probably the king of being polarizing. This is Trump’s marketing secret to keeping his name in the media 24×7 (good or bad).
Depending on your business and market, this may not be so easy to do.
You can still benefit by piggybacking onto viral news from the likes of Trump.
And, this can separate you from the $h!thole businesses (those not getting the attention of your market).
Speaking of marketing, spinning news reports is just one way I generate ideas for my email marketing clients. There are more ideas to spin for your product or service than days in a year.
